Changelly: A worked swap example from quote to payout

Changelly swaps begin with a quote and payment instructions, then progress through deposit confirmation, exchange, and delivery to the specified receiving address. To follow an order, compare its status with the sending wallet’s transfer record and, later, the payout transaction hash. A quote alone does not move your crypto. Sending the deposit changes what you can undo: an unfunded order can expire, while a funded exchange may require support intervention. In this hypothetical swap, you want to receive another asset while retaining the option to stop before payment. The pair, amount, and completion time depend on your order.

Key takeaway: Checking an order costs no crypto; sending its deposit commits funds to an exchange that may require support to interrupt.

Quote options for a wallet payout

Fixed and floating quotes offer different treatment of price movement during a swap. A floating quote allows the eventual output to change with market conditions. A fixed quote preserves the quoted output subject to its funding conditions: the service must receive the specified amount, and the incoming transfer must appear on the blockchain within the permitted window.

Neither choice makes a funded exchange freely reversible. Check the networks, limits, and payment instructions for the assets you choose before sending funds.

Receiving and refund addresses before payment

The receiving address identifies where the converted asset should go, while a refund address provides a destination for returning the input asset when applicable.

The destination for the converted asset

Use an address that accepts the selected receiving asset on its specified network. Include a destination tag or memo when the receiving service requires one. The address and any extra identifier work together; a correct address does not compensate for a missing required identifier.

The destination for returned funds

A fixed-rate order includes a refund address for the input currency. That address serves a different purpose from the payout address, which receives the converted currency. Check both before funding, including any required extra identifier. Supplying a refund address does not create an unconditional right to cancel.

The order from preparation to receipt

Before payment, you can stop without transferring funds. After payment, the next action depends on whether the deposit is confirming, the exchange needs attention, or the payout has been sent.

Overview: The order from preparation to receipt
Stage Action or observable state Stopping or recovery condition
Prepare the wallets Confirm sending and receiving asset compatibility. Resolve uncertainty before creating a payment.
Review the quote Read the rate type, amounts, limits, and charges. Leave funds untouched if the terms do not fit.
Create the order Record its identifier and payment instructions. An unfunded order can expire.
Send the deposit Use the order’s address, network, amount, and required extra identifier. A submitted transfer needs investigation before any repeat payment.
Confirm and exchange The service awaits confirmations, then processes the conversion. A hold or failure requires attention beyond ordinary waiting.
Send the payout The converted asset leaves for the recipient address. Support cannot cancel an already-sent payout.
Reconcile receipt Match the payout record with the receiving wallet. Investigate an absent credit using the payout details.

The exchange status distinguishes incoming-payment confirmation, conversion, and outgoing delivery. A hold or failure interrupts that progression; it is not an additional step that every successful order must pass.

The last review before sending funds

At the payment screen, compare the order’s instructions with the transfer that the sending wallet is about to submit. Check the amount that will reach the deposit address, especially if the sending service deducts a withdrawal charge. Confirm the selected network and any required memo or tag before authorizing payment.

The last review before sending funds: If a detail is wrong and no payment has left, stop there. An unused quote does not require a recovery transaction.; For a fixed-rate replacement, let the previous unfunded order expire before creating another.; This keeps its payment instructions separate from the replacement order.

A pending withdrawal as the deadline approaches

A withdrawal request that remains pending at the sending service does not establish that the deposit has appeared on the blockchain.

Suppose your sending service shows a pending withdrawal while the order still awaits payment. Inspect that existing withdrawal and look for its transaction hash. This check does not send additional funds or alter the recipient.

If the sending service has not broadcast the transfer, its withdrawal process needs attention. Ask that service whether the request remains pending and whether cancellation is available. Do not assume that creating a replacement exchange also redirects an existing withdrawal.

If a transfer already exists, retain its hash and compare its destination with the order. Refresh the order status; if the mismatch persists, contact exchange support with both identifiers. A second deposit can complicate the unresolved payment, so do not resend simply because the screen still says payment is missing.

What should you do while the deposit confirms?

Wait for the required blockchain confirmations when the deposit matches the order and its status shows confirming. The required confirmation count depends on the incoming currency. The network supplies those confirmations; the exchange cannot manufacture them or bypass an unconfirmed payment.

Check whether the transfer continues to gain confirmations before treating an unchanged screen as a failed exchange. If its blockchain progress and the order disagree, provide support with the existing deposit hash.

A hold requires a different response

A hold can mean that anti-money-laundering or identity verification procedures have interrupted processing. Additional blockchain confirmations alone do not resolve that requirement. Follow the instructions associated with the held transaction and contact the relevant support or security team for the outstanding request.

This possibility matters before sending funds when reversibility is the main constraint. A compatible address and acceptable quote do not guarantee uninterrupted processing. If retaining immediate control throughout is essential, stop before funding the order; once funds are on hold, follow the verification and support process.

The payout hash and the wallet credit

The payout hash identifies the outgoing transfer, whereas the deposit hash describes the payment that funded the exchange. Use the outgoing record when checking receipt.

The transfer to the recipient

Compare the recorded payout address and actual output amount with the order. Transaction records distinguish the expected amount from the amount actually sent, and they provide separate incoming and outgoing hashes. These distinctions prevent a confirmed deposit from being mistaken for evidence of delivery.

The receiving wallet’s display

A completed exchange and a missing wallet balance require a check of the receiving side. Refresh or synchronize the wallet and examine the payout details. If the transfer reached a hosted receiving service but that service has not credited it, give its support team the outgoing transaction information.

Recovery after a failed exchange

A failed exchange requires a case-specific response: support may be able to arrange manual processing or a refund, depending on the failure. A deposit below the minimum cannot proceed automatically. If the amount cannot cover the network fee needed to return it, Changelly cannot refund it.

Changelly cannot cancel a payout that it has already sent to the recipient address. Before that point, support may be able to intervene, but a request does not guarantee a stop. Report an incorrect recipient promptly rather than waiting for the order to finish.

Changing your mind about the rate does not itself establish refund eligibility. Recovery also depends on where the funds went and whether the exchange completed. Keep the original order open as a support case until its outcome is clear.

Closing the order with its actual outcome

Verify the outcome by matching the payout to the receiving wallet, or an agreed refund to its valid return address. A refund returns the input currency; it does not complete the originally requested conversion.

Keep the order identifier beside the transfer record that establishes that outcome. The exchange records a refund hash separately from a payout hash, so the final record should identify which transfer actually occurred.

Changelly: what people ask

Can I fund a Changelly order with several smaller transfers?

Do not split the requested deposit into separate payments to make up an amount later. The exchange instructions require the correct received amount and state that an underpayment cannot be topped up afterward. A short fixed-rate deposit or a payment below the minimum may fail.

Where can I recover the order identifier after closing the payment screen?

The transaction’s entry in Changelly account history contains its order identifier. Open the relevant transaction and retain that identifier for support. Closing the screen does not erase a blockchain transfer that you already submitted, so check the existing order before attempting another payment.

Will manual processing preserve an expired order’s earlier quote?

Manual processing can use the rate available when support processes the transaction. Do not treat an earlier estimate as the terms of a later recovery arrangement. Review the proposed output and any refund alternative before agreeing to proceed.
